Who we are …

Meg and Nick are a husband and wife team from Sydney who are both passionate about community, connection and wellbeing.

Nick has been sober for more than a year and loving everything about life after kicking the booze to the kerb.

Meg is one of those annoying people who can have one cocktail on a Saturday night and then not think about having another for weeks.

Nick is a former Sydney Morning Herald journalist, musician and long-time community facilitator.

Meg is a teacher, musician and bringer of commonsense to Nick’s wilder ideas.

The idea behind SoberFest came from a simple realisation: giving up alcohol doesn't mean giving up having a good time.

After decades believing grog was the magic ingredient for everything from a great night out to a meaningful conversation, Nick joined thousands of others who have found life without it could be every bit as colourful, spontaneous and entertaining.

Who knew?

And that got us both thinking. Why are so many social occasions centred on booze? There has to be room for a festival where the music is brilliant, the food delicious, the conversations are interesting and nobody cares what's in your glass.

SoberFest was born. We wanted to create the kind of event we'd love to attend ourselves: a big, welcoming celebration packed with live music, inspiring speakers, great food, interesting people and plenty of unexpected discoveries.

Not a dreary lecture about the evils of alcohol or a self-important self-improvement seminar. Just a cracking day out … minus the booze.

SoberFest isn't just for people who have stopped drinking. It's for the sober, the sober-curious, the occasional drinker and anyone who simply fancies trying something different (and if you come along seeking help for what might be a problem - we’ve got you covered, too).

Bring your friends, bring your family, bring your curiosity. You don't need a particular relationship with alcohol to belong here.

We're starting with one day in Marrickville and an ambitious dream to create a much-loved fixture on Sydney's cultural calendar.

We hope SoberFest will bring people together, challenge a few assumptions and prove alcohol-free doesn't mean fun-free.

Most of all, we want everyone to go home thinking: that was a day to remember.
